The revelation on the unique origins of the video portal has got to be Steve Chen, co-founder of YouTube, during a conference in Austin, Texas: Chen, in fact, has explained how the initial idea was to allow people to upload a video on the portal to present their ideas to potential partners. After five days since its launch, however, none had yet been loaded, not even a video, and this has driven the three founding members to consider the idea to open a portal to any content type. As history shows us, the about-turn has then paid for itself widely to the founders, leading YouTube to be in, the site with the highest growth rate in the world, to then culminate with the acquisition by Google towards the end of the year. Steve Chen was at the conference, with Via, for the purpose of presenting his latest startup: Name, a streaming service dedicated to the kitchen.
